How Acupuncture Works

In traditional Chinese medicine, your life energy, called qi (chi), runs through your body in meridians. There are points where this energy can be accessed and stimulated with the use of fine needles, heat, pressure, or energetically. Just as you need blood circulation to heal an injury, and decrease pain, your energy needs to be flowing to feel well. Think of this energy as a river within you. With acupuncture we regulate that river to restore balance, strengthen your life energy, nourish or calm you. You feel your best when your river of energy is flowing smoothly and evenly.

Needles can also be used on trigger points to release muscular tension (IMS).

Traditional Chinese medicine acknowledges you as a whole, intricate system. I look at your symptoms, how they manifest in your body, and how they affect you. For example stress manifests differently for different people. While one person may experience muscle tightness, another may have headaches or asthmatic breathing, high blood pressure, fatigue, depression, and so on. Acupuncture can treat your symptoms and addresses the root of the problem simultaneously.

Each treatment begins with a series of questions about your health concerns, symptoms, diet, lifestyle, sleep patterns, and medical history. These sessions are one on one and take approximately 60 minutes. I use extremely fine needles that are one-time use, sterile, and surgical stainless steel.

My technique is gentle. Some people actually fall asleep during treatment. For others, there is minimal discomfort. After treatment most people feel calm and energized. I am happy to answer any and all questions.

I offer acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, diet and lifestyle counseling, and Reiki if requested.
